The Digital Image Processing & Facility Management Group (DIP&FM Group) has been established during the year 2011 for capacity building in advanced remote sensing applications for natural resources management. The group is engaged in research activities for the utilisation of data available from emerging sensors. The group's laboratory is well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in Digital Image Processing and GIS based hardware and software. The group has rich experience in carrying out projects involving diverse applications of remotely sensed data. The studies carried out in the recent past includes potential hydropower sites investigation in Himalayan terrain, reservoir operation and capacity assessment, watershed monitoring; bio-physical parameters retrieval using microwave data for soil moisture, surface roughness, agriculture, forestry, wetland, human settlement, etc.; urban information system and spatial growth prediction modelling; bio-diversity assessment and invasive species modelling, vegetation carbon dynamics, bio-physical parameter retrieval using hyperspectral data, etc. The group has expertise in developing customized solutions using freeware and open-source software.
